Chloe Martel (played by Alanna Bale), 25, a Slope style Freestyle skier.  Chloe grew up in Three Rivers Quebec.  Raised by a single mom of modest means, Chloe found her true calling on the ski slopes.  A natural athlete, she was encouraged and coached by some of the best instructors around, qualifying for slalom events at a young age.  But it wasn’t until she found slope style freestyle skiing did she fully engage with her talent.  The high jinx acrobatics and showmanship of slope style skiing thrilled her and propelled her to train relentlessly.     She’s 25 – where did her life go?  Was all that time and dedication worth it?  Deciding to take time off, she met Patrick on a fun ski trip to Switzerland.  They dated and he introduced her to a brand new lifestyle.  The romance progressed quickly and they were soon engaged, though her life remained at a crossroads.  At the time of her abduction, she just earned her spot on Canada’s Olympic team and was celebrating with Patrick.  Understandably, her sheltered upbringing and singularly focused life until now makes her vulnerable to indoctrination by her captors.  But she’s resilient and no fool.  Damien has got a fight on his hands.

Damien Richard (played by Kristopher Turner)28. Chloe’s captor.  Foreign born and educated, Damien is a disillusioned intellectual who, like the others in his group, have decided to take direct action against what they see as the global corporate takeover of western society.  At university, Damien studied political science and wrote a thesis on the transaction tax and the revocation of Corporate Personhood.  Shortly after graduation, he immigrated to Toronto where his radical views were not widely accepted in political circles.  He believes the Western world is on the brink of economic and social collapse and only direct action against multinational corporations will bring about any kind of course correction in the downward march to destruction.  Yes, he’s idealistic and a true believer.  His beliefs are extreme, but he carries them for all the right reasons.  He believes humanity can be saved, but only through radical change.  Choosing a new way of life, living consciously in a sustainable world, respectful of the environment – this is possible in the future he’s striving to create.  The deep feelings he develops for Chloe over the course of the season come as a shock to him and rock the foundation of his belief system.
